🌿My Story
Every caregiver has a story. This is mine.
I never imagined that caring for my brother would become one of the greatest blessings—and greatest challenges—of my life. Along the way, John has taught me more about joy, resilience, unconditional love, and faith than I ever thought possible.
This website exists because of him, and because I want other caregivers to know they are never alone.
Meet John
Before I tell you my story, I'd like you to meet the person who inspired it all.
If you ask me to describe my brother John, I won't start with a diagnosis. I'll tell you he's funny, loyal, kind, and has a personality bigger than most people I know. His comedic timing is impeccable, his facial expressions are priceless, and his unique way of looking at the world has a way of making everyone around him smile.
"The world may see a diagnosis. I've always seen my brother."
Over the years, thousands of people have come to know John through our videos. They often tell me he brightened a difficult day or changed the way they see people with Down syndrome. What they may not realize is that the same joy they see on camera is exactly who John is in real life. He has an incredible ability to make people feel seen, laugh when they need it most, and appreciate life's simple moments.
But the greatest gift John has given me isn't the laughter—it's perspective. He reminds me daily that love is found in ordinary moments, that joy doesn't have to be complicated, and that the people who change our lives often do so in the quietest ways.
This website bears John's name because his life has shaped mine in ways I never expected. Before you read my story, I wanted you to know the remarkable man who inspired it.

Our StoryA Life I Never Planned
If you had asked me a few years ago what this season of my life would look like, I never would have described it this way.
I was a middle school principal, raising two incredible daughters and balancing the demands of a career I loved. Life was full, busy, and predictable. Like so many people, I had plans for retirement—more time with family, opportunities to travel, and the chance to finally slow down after years of pouring into others. But life has a way of changing our plans when we least expect it.
Long before I officially became my brother John's caregiver, I was already showing up. After long days at school, my daughters and I would stop by my mom's house every evening to check on her and John. We brought groceries, shared meals, solved problems, laughed together, and did whatever needed to be done. At the time, I thought I was simply helping my family. Looking back now, I can see that God was quietly preparing my heart for a journey I never saw coming.
What followed were seasons of loss, unexpected responsibility, difficult decisions, and moments that tested every part of me. They also revealed a strength I didn't know I possessed and a purpose I never expected to find. That's the story I share in my book—and it's the reason this website exists. My hope is that if you're walking your own unexpected journey, you'll know you don't have to walk it alone.
